It is because the "rocker key", the square in the center of the directional pad on the device itself, is a return key. It works pretty much as you would expect a normal return key on a desktop would do. But in order to support navigation, moving from one UI element to another with the device keys, the return key is also specified to open the virtual keyboard, or optionally the full screen keyboard. Unfortunately this conflicts when you start to use an actual HW keyboard. If/when HW keyboards are supported in the platform itself, both navigation with the device keys and the BT keyboard's return key will somehow be available simultaneously. For the IT2006 release, remapping the key works. > I've been unable to get maemo-bt-plugin working at all on sardine. It never > appears on the status bar, even after compiling and installing the svn version > from the garage repository. Is there another version somewhere? In Sardine status bar plugins must provide a .desktop file in the /usr/share/applications/hildon-status-bar directory. Since the plugin was made for the IT2006 release, it unfortunately doesn't. I'll see about updating the plugin, but I believe it would work if you created this file from one of the others in the same directory (just make sure Category=permanent is present in the file). -- Configure bugmail: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. I think this kind of thing shouldn't be happening anymore. IIRC it happens because .desktop file contained a service, and this service is not being launched. If application startup takes long time you should propably show some kind of infoprint or 'splashscreen' dialog and handle the initialization asynchronously, otherwise also the user will think your application is jammed. In this case however, application is not killed by the window-manager. ---------------------------------8<----------------------------- not relevant for this issue but FYI Window-manager initiates killing _only_ when user presses 'x' to close app and it does not respond OR if application is switched to another using task-navigator and that one does not respond. Way of detecting the responsiveness is done through Gtk using WM_PING. To make your application responsive, all you have todo is to have gtk_main() iterating. If you block somewhere (rendering, initialization, loading stuff etc.) there is no answer to ping's from window-manager. -- Configure bugmail: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. So, if your program is started from the menu, it must register the D-Bus service that is specified in its .service file in /usr/share/dbus-1/services. osso_initialize() does this for you (or you can do it using D-Bus API directly). What comes to the syslog, it's ridiculously easy to install it yourself... Just take the ARM packages from Debian and dpkg -i --force-all them, or compile ARMEL packages if you don't like forcing. The point is that maemo is still a rather unforgiving development environment where too much magic happens under the hood. Writing new applications just for maemo isn't bad. Porting existing applications to interface with other things on the maemo is very frustrating. Too many interdependancies - very non unix. I do display a progress bar during the initialization process. For example the .desktop file runs a script that dispatches two processes serially. The first process goes out to the net and looks for any updates then installs it. The second process is the real app. I don't want a process to try to update itself because it's too dependant on the OSes file system and buffer cache layers if a running file can be overwritten at all and if it can, what happens to the mapped pages. -- Configure bugmail: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. Fixes NB#43926. * hildon-widgets/hildon-time-editor.h: Added INVALID_CHAR to HildonTimeEditorErrorType enumeration. 2006-10-19 Michael Dominic Kostrzewa * hildon-widgets/hildon-date-editor.c: (hildon_date_editor_keypress): Added check for not allowed keys. (hildon_date_editor_date_error): Added banner message for not allowed keys. Fixes NB#41049. * hildon-widgets/hildon-date-editor.h: Added INVALID_CHAR to HildonDateEditorErrorType enumeration. If both hildon-date-editor.h and hildon-time-editor.h are included, a conflict occurs because the enumeration constant INVALID_CHAR is defined twice. In my opinion it would be a good idea to always namespace enumeration values just as GTK+ does, but I don't know if an API change of that magnitude is feasible at this point. -- Configure bugmail: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. E.g. HildonDateEditorErrorType defines NO_ERROR whereas HildonTimeEditorErrorType uses NO_TIME_ERROR, obviously to avoid a conflict with the former. 3) Automated tools for generating reference documentation or wrapper code can properly do their job. For instance, right now each non-namespaced enumeration must be wrapped by handed in hildon-fmmm and hildon-widgetsmm since the code generator only works with predictable naming conventions. I'd volunteer to perform a global search/replace cycle in the Maemo repository, as this would in effect reduce my workload down the chain. -- Configure bugmail: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. Instead of dependending on osso-uri-l10n-mr0 I believe it should depend on osso-uri-l10n-mr0 | osso-uri-l10n-mr Have a look here for an example: https://stage.maemo.org/svn/maemo/projects/haf/tags/osso-application-installer/4.36.1/debian/control The reason is that mr0 packages show up in the device but the SDK has mr1 packages. Sardine currently has both but that might not last long -- Configure bugmail: https://maemo.org/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact.
