Menus seem to close either on stylus press or release, depending on case (mostly
on release, though). Try the following:

 * Open the application main menu (any application will do)
 * Close the menu by tapping outside. 
 * If you tapped on application area, the menu will close on stylus release
 * If you tapped on other application (task navigator, titlebar, statusbar),
   the menu will close on press.
 * If a submenu was open while the menu was closed, the release always triggers
   the action

On desktop gtk, the menus will close on release on all the mentioned cases...
