It's been removed. We could implement it properly and send it upstream though.
As Tommi says, feel free to open a bug about it.

You could provide some context in the po files, for example...
This is a complex problem anyway, don't expect one fix-it-all solution, even if
we got ellipsization completely right, it *still* sucks.

Btw, I've tested this a bit more and it seems the only place where it really
fails to be centered by more than 1/2 pixels is the Navigation Applet, and
Moises tells me it's doing some evil hacks there. I'll keep this open for now
though.
