(in my case 4GB Sandisk Class 2 SDHC card and 8GB Patriot Class 4 SDHC card.) Both of the cards are formatted as FAT32 using 2kB block size. The problem is reproducible 100% of the time, and affects both internal and external memory slots. This problem has occurred (at least) with the current firmware and with earlier firmware. I have tested this in two different N800 devices and the outcome is the same on both. If I check the same SDHC cards using external SDHC USB card reader connected directly to PC the diskcheck finishes without problems and does not find any problems on the cards. EXPECTED OUTCOME: Windows XP should complete the diskcheck and fix any issues if it finds any. This works OK if there is NOT large amount of files and folders on the card. The threshold how many files/folders are needed for this problem to occur is unknown. (My guess maybe the 32768 is the magic number...) ACTUAL OUTCOME: After about 30 seconds since starting the checkdisk, the N800 display lights up and the PC gives error message saying Windows is unable to complete the disk check. At the same time the memory card is no longer seen in Windows File Manager. STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM: Copy large amount of files and folders to a N800 memory card and try Windows diskcheck. OTHER COMMENTS: This problem occurs also with latest Chinook firmware on N800 device. The cards I have tested and have the problem contains over 49.000 files in over 1900 directories. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.maemo.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. I'm not aware of any program adding new thumbnailer I would install; I also did not run any other application during running those crashing programs. Four users, including myself have experienced this after installing videocenter. For me, I had been running with the latest release (the one just before the last SDHC fix) for some time, then installed videocenter and the device started really slowing down. Then after a few days of being really slow, it wouldn't boot up. It just sat at the 'Nokia' screen, and would flash black every few minutes, and come back to the 'Nokia' screen. I had to flash the device to get it back to normal. This happened a second time, again just after I installed videocenter. I realize that videocenter is not Nokia's application, but at the same time, it is bricking people's devices, and something on the OS side must prevent this sort of thing from happening. A userspace program should not be able to do this. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.maemo.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. There's nothing that can be done except reflash, avoid that software in the future and inform the other users to avoid that too. -> wontfix It would be preferably the inform the developers that they should fix their software. [1] The software packages are installed to the device with all the access rights like is done on all Linux systems. Native applications don't have any kind of sandbox in which they would be run (like e.g. Java applets are run) to protect the system. If this software is run after installation under normal user privileges and it didn't mess up any device system configuration files when it installed itself, then there are some guarantees. My assumption based on the symptoms is that the software fills the flash as "root" user and as result device gets slower and when the flash is completely full, device is in reboot loop. Normal user processes cannot do that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.maemo.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. Product: System software Version: 3.2 Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: Medium Component: general AssignedTo: carlos at maemo.org ReportedBy: czr at iki.fi QAContact: hafqa at maemo.org /usr/bin/run-standalone.sh (same script in both SDK and device) expands the command line parameters without preserving paramater boundaries, which leads to problems when running programs that have parameters which contain spaces in the. Example (runniable on both): run-standalone.sh dbus-send --print-reply --type=method_call --dest=com.nokia.statusbar /com/nokia/statusbar com.nokia.statusbar.system_note_dialog string:'Hello world' int32:2 dbus-send: Data item "world" is badly formed EXPECTED OUTCOME: A dialog that opens via D-Bus from the statusbar component, containing "information"-icon and test "Hello World". ACTUAL OUTCOME: dbus-send sees string:Hello and World as two separate parameters due to incorrect quoting in run-standalone.sh and hence fails to run. STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM: Repeat the example above. OTHER COMMENTS: The fix is _trivial_: Instead of launching the program with $* , use "$@" as the last line in run-standalone.sh (applies to both SDK and N800, probably earlier/later versions as well). After this three-character fix, parameter boundaries are preserved through run-standalone.sh. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.maemo.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. The parenthesis around G_PRIORITY_DEFAULT + 1 is not needed though :) + if ((event->time - priv->escape_press_time) >= + HILDON_WINDOW_LONG_PRESS_TIME) + { + hildon_window_fake_close_event (widget); + } + priv->escape_press_time = 0; This on the other hand, I'm not so sure. It is a hack, and I can imagine situations where it could break (like getting a ButtonRelease without a ButtonPress. Yes, it can happen). Shouldn't lowering the priority of the timeout be enough to prevent it from running before queued events that got stuck because the application is blocking the main loop? Shouldn't lowering the priority of the > timeout be enough to prevent it from running before queued events that got > stuck because the application is blocking the main loop? You are right, this is a hack but this is not new code. It has been refactored from the hildon_window_escape_timeout function in order to make use of it more easily. About those situations, they are already handled, take a look to the hildon_window_focus_out_event function. Finally, I reckon it is not enough just lowering the priority since you have to handle with key release event been handled before timeout and having pressed the key for more than the set timeout. I think the patch is safe in the sense that it is not adding any strange hack that it wasn't already there. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.maemo.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. This functionality is very important to be able to properly implement language bindings, as they need the user data pointer to manage the connection between the binding and the underlying library. So while libosso supports user data, it doesn't support destroy functions that are invoked when the user data is no longer needed. Effectively, this makes it impossible, and not only for language bindings, to properly use dynamically allocated user data with the libosso library. If more cleanup than just freeing the memory is required, as in the case of language bindings, this lack of destroy functions for user data becomes critical. Unfortunately there is no really functional work-around available without making assumptions about how the API will be used by other code, which is not possible in the case of language bindings. Since the C++ bindings will be part of the developer platform with Maemo 4.0, we feel that fixing this problem is important. Thus we propose to change the API so that all libosso functions that take a user data argument also accept a function pointer to a user-supplied destroy function. If an API change is deemed inappropriate at this point, the alternative solution of providing additional entry points would also be acceptable. A patch is in the works and will follow. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.maemo.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact. Application can be closed by clicking "X" in the application window, or by selecting Close from the application specific menu. Finally, the application can also be closed by clicking the "x" in the Home (>>) menu. However, if the application is closed using the Home menu while the application does not have focus (ie. the application window is "buried") then nothing will appear to happen because the application remains "buried" even though it requires user input. If the application is closed while it has focus it will produce a "system prompt" sound when prompting the user, but when being closed while "buried" there will be no sound. EXPECTED OUTCOME: When clicking "x" in the Home (>>) menu, if the application requires user input prior to closing/terminating it should become the active window by taking focus and any associated "system prompt" sound should be heard. ACTUAL OUTCOME: The application being terminated remains buried but prompts the user for input without generating any "system prompt" sound. Consequently the user is unaware the application is prompting for input, thus the user is left with the impression that nothing has happened. When the user eventually switches foucs and makes the application active, the dialog prompt will become visible and only then is the "system prompt" sound hear. STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM: 1. Open Notes, enter some textual data 2. Return to the Home screen by opening the Home menu(>>) and selecting "Home" 3. Open the Home menu (>>) and attempt to close Notes by clicking on "x" to the right of the Notes entry in the Home menu list The Notes application will "refuse" to close and the user will not hear the "system prompt" sound. The Home menu will remain visible with the Notes application still listed. If the user then switches focus to the Notes application the dialog will become visible and the "system prompt" sound will be heard. OTHER COMMENTS: If the Notes application is the active/focused application, try and close Notes by clicking "x" in the Home menu. The "Save note before closing" prompt will appear but the prompt will be "covered" by the still open Home menu - this is even more obvious when the Home menu is in "Finger" mode. This shouldn't happen - the Home menu should close when an application is prompting the user for input! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.maemo.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are the QA contact for the bug, or are watching the QA contact.
