This is probably more correctly closed as FIXED, as this has to do with the
4.0.1 release being out of sync for the 50-2 release.

Looks pretty WONTFIX to me, though of course having a "Browser has quit
unexpectedly" message would be an option.
With regard to the crash itself:
If you can still reproduce that one Diablo, please enter
about:config?prefname=browser.consolelogfile&prefvalue=/tmp/browserlog in the
browser location bar, set that preference, reproduce the browser problem and
post the content of the file /tmp/browserlog here (you can for example start
the terminal application, run "more /tmp/browserlog" and copy the output to
this bug report).

------- Comment #7 from maemo at subs.maneos.org 2008-08-02 16:25 GMT+3 -------
I just discovered /usr/bin/hildon-im-xkbtool, which came in package
hildon-im-wc, ("Western word completion plugin for slide keyboard") of all
things.
With it I can switch slide keyboard layouts from the command line (yay!), for
example:
hildon-im-xkbtool --id=3 -l gr -m pc105
but there are some side effects:
- FN, CHR, & SHIFT-SPACE stop working
- the D-pad middle button becomes an ENTER key
Launching the text input settings control panel applet and tapping OK resets
the keyboard state.
The side effects may be due to "pc105" being the wrong keyboard model. The
correct one seems to be "nokiarx44":
~ $ hildon-im-xkbtool -g
Internal keyboard:
Model: nokiarx44
Layout: us
Delay: 600
Interval: 50
but specifying that fails with "GLIB WARNING ** default - Error loading
keyboard description". The only models defined /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base*
are "pc105" and "nokiasu8w".
xev shows these events for FN & CHR respectively under normal conditions:
KeyPress event, serial 20, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,
root 0x3e, subw 0x0, time 2206035085, (655,-33), root:(735,27),
state 0x0, keycode 216 (keysym 0xfe03, ISO_Level3_Shift), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 characters: ""
KeyPress event, serial 23, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,
root 0x3e, subw 0x0, time 2206041322, (655,-33), root:(735,27),
state 0x0, keycode 135 (keysym 0xff20, Multi_key), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 characters: ""
but these when switched with hildon-im-xkbtool (both pc105 & nokiasu8w models
give the same results):
KeyPress event, serial 20, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,
root 0x3e, subw 0x0, time 2206169688, (655,-33), root:(735,27),
state 0x0, keycode 216 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 characters: ""
KeyPress event, serial 23, synthetic NO, window 0x1e00001,

Is there any error message displayed?
What exact manufacturer and modell is this?
Could you maybe provide a syslog and a hcidump (package "bluez-hcidump", also
see http://maemo.org/development/documentation/man_pages/hcidump.html ) of the
problematic situation?

BT Keyboard is an iGo (Stowaway Ultra-Slim).
This was not a problem with OS2007 using the same keyboard and N800.

This one is probably FIXED or maybe DUPLICATE of one of the other text input
bugs (too lazy to search at the moment), but is almost definitely fixed in
Diablo.
I'll wait for Kees to chime in, though.

hello , i have not used diabolo on the n800. On chinhook the issue was solved
so i think we can safely close the bug as it appears to be only present in the
beta.

Just trying to clean up the patch database in maemo Bugzilla. ;-)

This has been around for quite some time and lots of users have reported this
in one form or another. This is related to the scrollbar issue too if I'm not
mistaken, i.e. tap and hold the scroll bar down/up arrow in microb and it
scrolls for ever sometimes.

Dialogs are positioned by window-manager unless application specifies
the co-ordinates itself (in which case WM doesn't change the position),
moving to correct component.
(Regarding severity, I don't see how dialog positioning would be major
loss of functionality. It would also be preferable for test code to
be in attachments, that makes them to easier to handle and the bug
more readable.)

I looked into code and this seems a clear bug. I've seen this warning
also in logs from our apps, maybe the cause is the same.

A check for "GTK_WIDGET_REALIZED(self)" or "self->window" in line 1466
libhildon::hildon-window.c should be enough:
--------------------------------------------
1456 void
1457 hildon_window_update_topmost (HildonWindow *self,
1458 Window window_id)
1459 {
1460 HildonWindowPrivate *priv = HILDON_WINDOW_GET_PRIVATE (self);
1461
1462 Window my_window;
1463
1464 g_return_if_fail (HILDON_IS_WINDOW (self));
1465 g_assert (priv);
1466
1467 my_window = GDK_WINDOW_XID (GTK_WIDGET (self)->window);
--------------------------------------------
Thanks!

Is that the correct package name? It doesn't seem to exist. The closest I can
find is hildon-input-method-plugins-western, which doesn't actually contain
anything.
> Please verify that it's fixed for you after it has been released.
FWIW, I see no change in 4.2008.30-2. Was today's update supposed to contain
the fix, or should we wait some more?

It's not in today's update, unfortunately - this was fixed after week 30.
See the "30" in the name of the update - now it's week 33 that the update has
been made available.
No idea when the next update will be made available, I'm not involved in that
process. :-/

Thanks for the ping.
This bug is being worked on, but I have no idea whether shipping an update for
Diablo including this fix is planned by Nokia or not.
Investigations seem to be a bit more complicated (kernel bugs), but it will
definitely be fixed for Fremantle.

This is because of calls to printf with a variable string as argument.
I'll attach the patch we use to fix the build for us.
I checked the relevant code, and the strings in use are fine; there's probably
no security issue here.
Bye,

if (result == GNOME_VFS_ERROR_EOF) {
break;
}
else if (result != GNOME_VFS_OK) {
/* Couldn't read. */
continue;
...
the problem case is that gnomevfs could fail because there are too many open
files. if it fails, it doesn't increment a counter such that it could reach
EOF, but instead should fail exactly the same way the next time.

The rhapsody-installer package (version 0.16) does not actually contain the

to belong to any package. That .desktop file should get installed as part of
the rhapsody-installer package, so that the package manager knows about it and
manages it with the rhapsody-installer package.

The metapackage "osso-software-version-rx34", shown in the application
installer as "OS2008 Feature Upgrade", provides system update functionality.
However, it also depends on numerous packages, many of which I would like to
remove. Previous versions of maemo did not complain when I removed these
packages, but with this version I cannot remove these packages without removing
the osso-software-version-rx34 metapackage and losing system update
functionality.
Packages I would like to remove:
adobe-flashplayer
gizmo-installer
rhapsody-installer
skype-installer
promo-applet
pre-installed-documentation-rx34
pre-installed-images
pre-installed-sounds
pre-installed-videos
Removing these packages frees up more space and removes menu items I won't ever
use.

I know it's a library. I need a test code which use
glade_xml_construct_from_buffer in order to test the library.I don't
understand this function because there are not
introduction about this.
So if you know this function you can tell me or give me a test code.

------- Comment #1 from rabelg5 at gmail.com 2008-08-18 04:55 GMT+3 -------
I was tempted to mark this one as DUPLICATE, since there are a lot of older
bugs relating to this (I don't think I found all of them while I was searching,
either), but I'd rather use it as the real bug, since it's much clearer about
the problem and covers the whole issue.
So, I think I have a possible solution to this issue that might be acceptable
for Nokia. Obviously, these items may need to be updated with an SSU push, so
having osso-software-version depend on them is the easiest path to accomplish
this. The problem is, it doesn't leave users a clean option for removing
optional cruft without removing their ability to receive SSU updates (and
opening them up to a very high probability of reboot loops if they attempt an
apt-get upgrade without osso-software-version installed).
What if Nokia were to ship two packages that represent the whole of the system?
osso-software-version-rx*4, which depends on the required system packages and
osso-software-version-rx*4-optional[1], which depended on the commercial
installer packages (Gizmo, Rhapsody, Skype) and the bundled documentation and
media packages. Then when a user wants these packages removed, they remove
them, and osso-software-version-rx*4-optional in the process, meaning they
don't get stuck with them again with each SSU push and don't have the SSU
system broken for them. Users that don't remove them receive updates to them
like normal, with Nokia just having to update
osso-software-version-rx*4-optional in addition to the normal one.
This would allow users to remove non-core packages (we can argue about what
"core" means, I suppose--some people might not consider Modest "core"--but I
think we can definitely agree that installer dummies and big bundled media
files aren't that), freeing up space and freeing their tablets (from commercial
software).
Clearly this is a solution that can't be pounded out overnight, but can we at
least consider it?
[1]This does assume that this arrangement would be acceptable to the providers
of Nokia's bundled commercial software, but forcing commercial products on
users is quite an Evil thing to do in the open source world. Maybe an
osso-software-version-rx*4, an osso-software-version-rx*4-optional (which
includes the bundled documentation and media files) and
osso-software-version-rx*4-commercial?

libglade itself uses this function in glade_xml_new_from_buffer(), so if that's
working then it's working.
However, there is a small rarely-triggered bug so you should take the new
libglade version (2.6.3), which I released today, please.

There is now some documentation here:
http://library.gnome.org/devel/libglade/unstable/GladeXML.html#glade-xml-construct-from-buffer
You also sent me two emails about this. Please just use bugzilla.

You're probably right, but I can't try out by uninstalling rhapsody-installer,
because it's required by "OS 2008 Feature upgrade" - that's bug 3602.

oh, so that's the way it is,I get it.
I don't see this usage before, I have just begun to learn libglade.
About this bug, I think nokia shuld update libglade(version 2.4.0) to at least
2.6.1 in order to use this function.
Thanks a lot!

I don't really understand above description.Because I need to write a report to
describe the bug your report . So if you give more explanation , I will very
appreciate for that. Besides,I want to know the c++ wrapper how to use this
function .

libglademm needs this function to exist in libglade in order to build
libglademm. It's that simple.
> Besides,I want to know the c++ wrapper how to use this

You want to know how to use the part of libglademm that uses this? I can't
imagine why that is important to you, but I will attach an example.

Is there an update on this?
Here is some more info. From dmesg, I see:
[346319.132812] EAC mode: play disabled, rec disabled
[346320.781250] input: Think Outside Keyboard as /class/input/input22
I see the kernel thread in ps:

In /sys/class/input, I see that the input directory has been created:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 Aug 19 11:46 event22 ->
../../class/input/input22/event22
The backlight will light when keys are pressed on the keyboard (iGo), but no
charactors appear on the screen (xterm).
If I disconnect the keyboard (using the BT icon) and then tap the xterm, the
onscreen keyboard will pop up. Pressing a key on the BT keyboard will cause the
onscreen keyboard to pop down (disappear), but still no characters show up in
the xterm (from the BT keyboard).
Rebooting fixes the problem until next time :(

I cannot reproduce this here, running 4.2008.30-2.
/usr/share/applications/hildon/rhapsody.desktop
does NOT exist in a fresh Diablo.
Uninstalling Rhapsody (the Metapackage) 3.3.14 will also definitely remove this
.desktop file, tested it twice here on Diablo with updates installed.
Running
dpkg -S /usr/share/applications/hildon/rhapsody.desktop
says:
rhapsody-player: /usr/share/applications/hildon/rhapsody.desktop

This has been fixed internally in initfs-diablo.
The fix will soon be available in a public update for Diablo.
Quoting:
"It appears that we have a kernel bug in drivers/char/random.c. In the
meantime, the driver has been somewhat modified and cleaned-up in mainline;
mainline version does not have the bug.
The kernel bug causes seeding data written to /dev/random or /dev/urandom to
*not* affect the produced random numbers in any way."

Some additional info on this problem:
Reproduced problem reliably by spending 3 minutes, pressing a key on the
keyboard, observing the BT icon turning blue, and then tapping on the icon and
disconnecting. Repeated 16 times.
Simultaneously, I had a ssh session from my laptop to the N800. By typing the
command: ls /sys/class/input, I could watch the input## count up. When the BT
keyboard reached input20, the keyboard would not type.
Used a different iGo keyboard (my son's) and paired the keyboard with the N800
(the 4 digits used in pairing were accepted). Attempted to type in an xterm, no
characters were displayed. /sys/class/input/ was up to input22.
Comment: I am frustrated that no one at Nokia will take the 3 minutes it
requires to reproduce this problem. Diablo is not worth this frustration, and I
am going back to OS2007, where the problem does not exist.

Not referring to the desktop file for rhapsody itself; I mean the
rhapsody-installer desktop file.

Again, not talking about rhapsody itself; I mean rhapsody-installer, the
package which simply provides a menu entry to install rhapsody.

OK, then please tell me the exact, absolute, full path of the file. "rhapsody
.desktop" is not really a file name... ;-)
I probably won't be able to check this myself as this is a European device
(Rhapsody is a US-only service).

If it was that easy...
There's also people out there for who the igo keyboard connects, e.g.
http://www.internettablettalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=203945&postcount=3 .
So the assumption that nobody tried is wrong - sometimes it's just hard to
reproduce.

Thanks for trying Steven,
I am curious, when you tried to reproduce the problem what was the number up to
on /sys/class/input/input## (where## is a number)?
I could reproduce the problem reliably when that number was 20 or above.

I think this bug could be closed!
I build libglade2.4.0 from maemo and then build libglademm2.6.6 .there will be
a problem about version.
if I build libglade2.6.3 and then build libglademm2.6.6.There is no problem.
I use the basic_from_buffer.cc to test the library. And it's correct.
So I hope the reporter to close this bug.

Maybe I am missing something, but after doing "apt-get update" in scratchbox,
then the libglade available is still 2.4, for both x86 and armel targets.

What do you mean? Please be more clear. This is becoming very frustrating.
For instance, please describe one problem that increasing the libglade version
could cause?
If necessary, please hand this bug over to somebody else.

This bug is about increasing the libglade version in maemo, not about whether
someone can build if from source locally.

Uh, I looked what the rhapsody installer actually does.
It has /var/lib/dpkg/info/rhapsody-installer.postinst script that adds couple
of things to sudoes file and then it has /usr/bin/rhapsody-installer.sh script
that under sudo moves the rhapsody.desktop file to where desktop files are if
that doesn't already exist and "region" returns "yes" (badly named binary,
it tells whether it's US device). It doesn't remove the sudoers lines in
postrm.
/etc/osso-af-init/real-af-startup script seems then to run
the rhapsody-installer.sh script on first bootup.
This seems Byzantine. Not showing the rhapsody installer might have
been done just by installing the .desktop file and removing it on first
boot if the region user selected isn't right. Or if the installer could
be installed afterwards, checking in postinst whether the region is right
and failing postinst if it isn't. real-af-startup could also use something
like what init does ("for script in /etc/first-bootup/*.sh...") for the first
bootup stuff so that it's independent from other packages.
I guess currently the actual rhapsody package overwrites the rhapsody.desktop
file that the installer copied for itself. Better would be if rhapsody
package would just conflict/replace the installer so that it (along with
its own .desktop file) would get uninstalled.
Are there any issues that current .desktop file would cause or could this
be marked as an enhancement? (If there're issues, I think it would be
better to create a new proper bug report with above details and description
of the issue(s) it causes + invalidate this bug.)

Message-ID:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3635
Summary: open source alarm framework
Product: System software
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: enhancement
Priority: Medium
Component: general
AssignedTo: nobody at maemo.org
ReportedBy: florian.boor at kernelconcepts.de
QAContact: hafqa at maemo.org
It would be great to have an open source implementation of the alarm framework.
The main reason for this is portability: It would enable people wo want to use
the HAF on other devices than the Nokia tablets to make use of this framework
too. The same applies for applications that run both in Maemo and in other GUI
environments. For these applictions it would be very useful to use the same API
for alarms.

Fair enough. I guess they just don't like updating anything other than a micro
version, though I'd like to know what the actual reasoning is in that internal
bug. And he internal bug number should be in the whiteboard, or somewhere, I
guess. Thanks.
Let's keep this open for Fremantle, so we can fix this then.

I see, the name is not consistent in the documentation.
I'm not sure if other components are affected, but the alarm framework consists
of libalarm and alarmd at least.

I must have stopped just short of that magic number last time, as I'm now
finding that my 4.2008.30-2 N800 does begin ignoring input from my
iGo/ThinkOutside Bluetooth keyboard as soon as /sys/class/input/input## hits

That certainly seems consistent with what I saw.

1) Removing rhapsody-installer does not remove the .desktop file. I had to
manually remove it.
2) Other installer packages (gizmo-installer and skype-installer) work as
expected, and own their own .desktop file.
3) Because the package system does not know about the .desktop file, it can't
tell me which package relates to it (via dpkg -S, for instance).

I noticed this problem immediately after upgrading my N800 from OS2007 to
diablo. I'm adding my observations below, in the hope that they might help get
a speedy resolution to this bug.
I have a application which displays some data in a gtktreeview. Typically, I
navigate the tree view pressing the down key. Sometimes when I do this,
multiple key presses seem to be triggered and I get taken to the bottom of the
treeview. The only way I can stop this happening is to quickly press the up
button. Note that this problem is not restricted to the down button or my
application. I can reproduce the same problem with the up button and I have
also noticed that if I switch applications, e.g., to FBReader, while the key
repeat problem is occurring, the problem persists in the new application.
This problem did not occur on OS2007. Any idea when it might be fixed?

You can upgrade the busybox to the latest version(1.11.1).Then you can use diff
script.

But this isn't the latest official version (from Nokia's repositories) for

Yes, that is the entire point.
Please, just assign this bug to somebody else. You are clearly totally
confused.

Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3646] New: hildon-fm doesn't build with Gtk+ 2.13
Message-ID:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3646
Summary: hildon-fm doesn't build with Gtk+ 2.13
Product: System software
Version: 4.1.1
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: Low
Component: hildon-libs
AssignedTo: nobody at maemo.org
ReportedBy: lool at dooz.org
QAContact: hildon-libs-bugs at maemo.org
Hey,
hildon-fm doesn't build against the new gtkfilesystem.h/gtkfilechooser.h
implementation in 2.13.
I wasn't sure whether to report this, so I mailed maemo-dev to check and
someone suggested I do. I hesitated because:
- it's still unsupported API/ABI, so it might break again
- maemo seems to be moving to Qt, not sure Gtk+ 2.13 will ever happen in maemo
Cheers,

Oh the build errors are really aplenty; I've summarized some of the APIs which
were renamed or replaced on the modest list:
"""
Just for the record, some of the API changes:
GtkFilePath, GTK_TYPE_FILE_PATH, gtk_file_path_*
=> GFile, G_TYPE_FILE, g_file_*
GtkFileSystemHandle
=> ~ GCancellable
GtkFileInfoType
=> quite hard to map as it expresses GFileInfoType and
GFileAttributeType infos at the same time
GtkFileInfo
=> ~ closest to GFileInfo
GtkFileFolder, gtk_file_folder_*
=> GtkFolder, gtk_folder_*
gtk_file_system_path_is_local
=> didn't find an is_local test; it seems you have to test for
nfs, smb etc. prefixes :-(
gtk_file_paths_free, gtk_file_paths_copy, gtk_file_path_compare,
gtk_file_paths_copy etc.
=> needs new implementations; Gtk+ doesn't provide gslists or
comparison utilities like the previous ones
etc. etc.
"""
