This is a high/critical priority/severity because if this problem is not
software oriented, I will return it and get another. I don't want to do that if
there is a bug-fix...

This sounds similar to other battery-oriented problems (won't turn ON, etc.),
but I'm not seeing it here, on the 2008 user site, or when I call Nokia
directly (they just want to replace the hardware). This battery is not on the
recall list. This has happened two times so far.

When I first got the N800 (a couple of weeks ago), I plugged in the charger. It
beeped and said, "Not Charging." This is with all the original software
(OS2007) just out of the box. I removed the battery from the n800 and did
waited a few minutes. No dice. Came back a couple of hours again, it charged
and has continued charging without fail. 

Yesterday (with OS2008), when it was down to 3 hours of charge, it beeped and
said "Not Charging." I continued to try to get it to take a charge, but it
wouldn't let me do so that evening. The next day it took a charge. Is this a
hardware error or is it related to the "won't turn ON error" I've seen
elsewhere? BTW, I have had the "won't turn ON error" happen to me once, but
only once.

SOFTWARE VERSION:
2.2007.50-2

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
This has happened twice so far. Don't seem to be able to reproduce it, but once
it happens it seems to take up to a day to recover. The last time it happened
in the evening and would not take a charge until the next morning. 

EXPECTED OUTCOME:
Eventually it seems to let me charge it.

ACTUAL OUTCOME:
Frustrating, but seems to fix itself.

REPRODUCIBILITY:
(always/sometimes/once)

Both times I tried charging with the N800 OFF, but I have charged it with the
N800 ON and had no trouble charging.

EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:

The first time it happened with no extra software using OS2007. The second time
it happened with OS2008 and FB Reader and Pidgin IM.

OTHER COMMENTS:

I hope you can help. I really love using the n800. Let me know...
