Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3125] New: Whitespace in 'desktop' file causes dbus
abort in Maemo-Launcher
Message-ID: <20080502041336.BC1EB11A932@maemo.org>
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3125
Summary: Whitespace in 'desktop' file causes dbus abort in Maemo-
Launcher
Product: System software
Version: 4.0
Platform: ARM
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Medium
Component: maemo-launcher
AssignedTo: guillem.jover at nokia.com
ReportedBy: roadmapformaemo at gmail.com
QAContact: maemo-launcher-bugs at maemo.org
SOFTWARE VERSION:
os2008 All Versions
STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
Load the hello world applet from maemo.org. Then edit it's .desktop file in
/usr/share/applications/hildon and add some whitespace and a carraige return or
two at the end of the file. Then save and try to launch the app from
Maemo-Launcher.
EXPECTED OUTCOME:The App should start normally.
ACTUAL OUTCOME: dbus fails an assertion and aborts killing the app and the
whole desktop which then restarts (improperly as customizations to the status
bar and menu are lost...)
REPRODUCIBILITY:
Always
EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED: Doesn't matter
OTHER COMMENTS: Maemo-Launcher should chomp() the data from the 'desktop' file
for an app before passing the string along to dbus... While I haven't looked at
the code. From it's behavior, I don't think this is happening.

Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3126] New: Upgrade to Glib 2.16
Message-ID: <20080502103531.98F04C13A2@maemo.org>
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3126
Summary: Upgrade to Glib 2.16
Product: System software
Version: 4.0
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Medium
Component: glib
AssignedTo: tapani.palli at nokia.com
ReportedBy: g+770 at cobb.uk.net
QAContact: glib-bugs at maemo.org
Please upgrade to using the latest Glib in the next OS release. Chinook uses
Glib 2.12 which is making it very difficult to port some applications. At a
minimum, 2.14 is needed but 2.16 would be better.
If a goal is to build a large base of community-developed and ported
applications then continuously keeping up to date with Glib is important. Note
that Opensync is an example of a project which cannot be built using the
Chinook SDK because of Glib issues.
An alternative would be for Nokia to build their own applications using a copy
of Glib (fixed at some version) with a different name and allow the community
to upgrade the real Glib as required (from the Extras repository).

Summary: Enter in save dialog should go "OK"
Product: System software
Version: 4.0
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: Low
Component: hildon-libs
AssignedTo: michael.kostrzewa at nokia.com
ReportedBy: matt at ucc.asn.au
QAContact: hildon-libs-bugs at maemo.org
SOFTWARE VERSION:
2.2007.51-3 n810
STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
Run backup/restore app (as an example of something with a save dialog), choose
"new backup" and type a new filename. Press enter (on the physical keyboard).
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
The same thing happens as if the OK button was clicked
ACTUAL OUTCOME:
Nothing happens
REPRODUCIBILITY:
It seems to be system-wide - I guess GtkFileDialog (or the hildon equiv?) needs
changing.
It's a minor issue, but small UI changes make a difference.

Yes, it's still valid for me. Being able to build this in jhbuild (or generally
for a different prefix) without having to build a debian package, would help us
to test and hack on this.

we will likely update glib at some point of time, there has been no strict
reason to do it yet. sure, we want to stay close to upstream but we also want
to be careful with upgrading a component that currently works fine for us.

------- Comment #8 from kimmo.hamalainen at nokia.com 2008-05-07 14:18 GMT+3 -------
As I said in Comment #4, we cannot break the existing API -- it's not going to
accepted by management, due to the cost of changing other software using
Libosso. It would be possible to add new functions, though, or use your own
modified Libosso for your purposes. Another possibility might be that we'd make
Libosso2 (with it's own Debian package) with this new API, and provide it in
addition to the old API. About muali API: I think it will not be taken into
use, and it will die with Libosso at some point, so do not bother using it.

Thanks. I don't see the need to create a parallel version of the API. Let's
just add new functions then. Do you need a new patch, or can you work with the
patch that is here?

Can you give any more explanation? It's not a pretty library, but how/why/when
will libosso be removed?

Oh, and the "paste" function of the on-screen keyboard also doesn't work.
I suspect the problem is that when the cellrenderertext loses focus (which is
the case when using "paste" form the on-screen keyboard or opening the thumb
keyboard), it won't be editable anymore.

------- Comment #17 from steven+maemo at steven676.net 2008-05-17 05:31 GMT+3 -------
Given that this behavior seems to be triggered by a GConf setting, it would
seem that forcing the setting to false using a GConf mandatory default would be
a usable (if ugly) workaround. Try, for example, running
gconftool-2 --direct
--config-source=xml:readwrite:/etc/gconf/gconf.xml.mandatory -t bool -s
/system/osso/af/slide-open 0
as root and then rebooting the tablet (or at least restarting gconfd). I have
been unable to reproduce this bug in several tries since setting this, though
(to be fair) I've never been able to reproduce this one consistently.
If a better fix can't be found, would it be possible to have this setting for
N800s only in the next software revision?

I'll explain elsewhere, maybe. the links as comments are because they abused
this bugzilla's url field which is reserved for use by *this* bugzilla.
by moved i mean "exported to garage". note that I changed this bug to hardware
n800; the garage stuff was for maintaining support for 770s.
this bug is present in dsme and flasher.
as for why it makes no sense to move this to garage.... anyone who wants to
build a kernel for the 770 must simply include the ioctl. and i'm sure that any
kernel from that garage project would include it, otherwise it'd simply trigger
reboots and they wouldn't be able to release it (because it wouldn't work!),
which is pointless.

What means from "maemo-launcher"?
/usr/bin/maemo-launcher is a daemon that you're not supposed to use directly.

Got direct mail for the reporter, correcting summary accordingly and moving

Adding lines containing only whitespace to the end of .desktop file didn't
cause crash. Adding whitespace at the end of the "X-Osso-Service=" line
did.
