Can you give more information about that!Is it your test code ?
If it's your test code. you could implement this function to use another way.
For example, you could read a file .and then close it.

Try to build libhildon against *normal* GTK (not maemo one) and it will fail.
This patch helps.

Especially as I think that e.g. "cron" from Debian provides most of the alarm
functionality except the device wakeup when the device is powered off
(which should be uncommon use-case)...

That's true - atd can do the same job, but that's not my point. Developing
applications you want to use the same API on all devices. libalarm offers a
nice highlevel api independent from the machanism that is used, but the
motivation to use it is very limited since it is not portable in any way.

In principle the request sounds reasonable. I will organize a request
internally so at least we will know if there is any obstacle.
The first thing to do is define the package/s that belong to this framework and
need to be opensourced: libalarm and alarmd. Anything else?

Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3670] New: Dialogs have no close button in the title
bar
Message-ID:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3670
Summary: Dialogs have no close button in the title bar
Product: System software
Version: unspecified
Platform: All
OS/Version: Windows
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Low
Component: window-manager
AssignedTo: tapani.palli at nokia.com
ReportedBy: bvh-kde at irule.be
QAContact: window-manager-bugs at maemo.org
SOFTWARE VERSION: 4.2008.30-2
STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM: Open any dialog, for example the about product
dialog in the configuration panel
EXPECTED OUTCOME: a button in the title bar to close the window
OTHER COMMENTS:
In my application I have both instant-apply dialogs and dialogs that just give
information (for example current gps information). Having to add a seperate
push button to close this dialog uses up valuable screen estate for no reason.
There was also a thread regarding this issue on qt4maemo-devel. See the
archives at

------- Comment #1 from tapani.palli at nokia.com 2008-09-03 07:53 GMT+3 -------
This is more of a UI design choice, buttons for dialog titlebar are possible
with Matchbox. In Maemo world user expects to have traditional [OK]?[Cancel]
choices. Would tapping 'x' to close dialog apply possible changes or discard
them? This would mean also additional delete signal handler for the window.

With instant apply dialogs, the result is already applied at that point. For
informational dialogs, there is nothing to apply.

I knew the answer as I use Mac at home :) But there is no 'instant apply'
dialogs in Maemo UI. You'll have to port the program to include buttons to
indicate user's wish.

I am not arguing for instant-apply dialogs. I am arguing for dialogs that have
a close button. The instant apply was just an example where this could be used.
The purely informational dialogs another.
I would like, as a developer, to have the choice to add/not add a close button
in the window decoration to all dialogs that I control. As a user, I would
prefer it that all dialogs that have a title bar in the standard maemo
interface also carry those close buttons but I understand that might be a too
radical change.
Re your question what should it do after tapping it, that seems obvious. All
major user interfaces do not apply changes if any are still outstanding after
hitting the close button in the window decoration.
> You'll have to port the program to include buttons to
> indicate user's wish.
I think this is in direct conflict with the Qt/Nokia headline of code less,
deploy everywhere.

It is too radical change at this point as a lot of apps would need
modifications (they likely would not handle deleting the dialog window very
well ;), in the future designs our dialogs might look a bit different and this
bug will be taken as one input to those.
> Re your question what should it do after tapping it, that seems obvious. All

Yep, but more important is that someone (app) would need to handle this
situation, and everyone should handle it exactly the same way.

Nope, different UI's can have different styles. Maybe Qt Maemo style (if such
exists) should be modified to include close buttons in dialogs? In linux world,
a window manager decides what is being shown on window decoration, application
should not depend on a certain window manager at any level.

------- Comment #3 from murrayc at murrayc.com 2008-09-03 16:53 GMT+3 -------
Of course this was predictable. Everyone knew that this was an unsupported
unstable API.
It would probably need a hildon-fm rewrite. That would be a good idea anyway,
as it's not the most sensible code. As a basis for that, there really should be
some documentation about why these widgets even exist. For instance, having
some actual descriptions here:
http://maemo.org/api_refs/4.1/libhildonfm-2.0.5/HildonFileChooserDialog.html
Maybe the gio-based GtkFileChooser can now do what GtkFileChooserDialog was
meant to do, or maybe it provides a cleaner way to add to its behavour.
> maemo seems to be moving to Qt
That's pure speculation and not really relevant. Don't encourage people not to
fix your bugs. It's hard enough already.

Which of the four available languages did you install? All of them, only one?
Did you reboot in between?
> open X Terminal, press 'Chr' of the keyboard or double click the screen
Does it work when using Notes?
So the virtual keyboard itself never appears on the screen?

If this is a bug of the Garage project itself, this is an invalid report and
should be reported at

Please always use the latest version when reporting bugs.
4.2008.23-14 is NOT the latest version.
I can reproduce this with 4.2008-30.2.
This works correctly for Notes, MicroB (the browser) and Modest (Email), so I
assume that it is an X-Terminal bug, hence reassigning.

------- Comment #13 from parejkoj at speakeasy.net 2008-09-05 21:44 GMT+3 -------
I reproduced this bug yesterday. At some point, the keyboard (ThinkOutside
Stowaway Ultra-slim) would connect, and could way the tablet (N800 running
4.2008.30-2) from sleep, but the tablet would not accept input no matter how
many times I disconnected and reconnected or repaired the keyboard. Rebooting
the tablet corrected the problem. I did not check the value of
/sys/class/input/input## at the time, as I did not see this bug.

I research this bug for a while. I think it's not the problem about X-Terminal.
First The input method of X-Terminal is different from other applications(Notes
Micro) which include entry widgets.
So I assume it's problem with vte.

What's more, I can supply a way to use the diff script at present version, but
it not the best way to solve this bug.
1. Download the newest version busybox.( busybox-1.11.1.tar.gz) Compile and
install it in scratchbox.
2. Create a symbolic link with busybox
[sbox-CHINOOK_ARMEL: ~/application/busybox-1.11.1] >ln ?s busybox diff
3. Then copy diff to N810?s /usr/bin/ directory.

That's really bad because /usr/bin/diff would not be part of any package,
meaning possible upgrade failures later (and I don't have scratchbox).
Recompiling GNU diff from upstream (directly on the N810) was much simpler (and
I have a better diff).

This was several months ago. But I got the tarball here:
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/diffutils/diffutils-2.8.1.tar.gz
Then I did:
$ ./configure --prefix=/media/mmc3/opt/diffutils
$ make
$ sudo gainroot
# make install
Note: you need some packages, like gcc and make. You can choose whatever you
want for prefix, but it mustn't be a vfat file system (you just need to update
$PATH in your .profile). In my case, I repartitioned the internal card as I
explained here: http://www.vinc17.org/maemo/

Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3698] New: osso-af-utils creates linking loops in

Message-ID:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3698
Summary: osso-af-utils creates linking loops in /usr/share/icons
and /usr/share/user-icons
Product: System software
Version: 4.1
Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: Low
Component: general
AssignedTo: nobody at maemo.org
ReportedBy: ericew at gmail.com
QAContact: hafqa at maemo.org
SOFTWARE VERSION: 4.2008.30-2
STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
/usr/share $ ls -alR user-icons/
user-icons/:
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Sep 11 16:36 .
drwxr-xr-x 78 root root 0 Sep 11 21:04 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Sep 11 16:35 default
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 Sep 11 16:36 user-icons ->
/usr/share/user-icons
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 36 Jun 12 13:06 xcursor-transparent ->
/usr/share/icons/xcursor-transparent
user-icons/default:
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Sep 11 16:35 .
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Sep 11 16:36 ..
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 42 Dec 22 2005 index.theme
/usr/share/icons/xcursor-transparent $ ls -al
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 Sep 11 16:36 .
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 Jun 12 13:03 ..
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Sep 11 16:35 cursors
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 36 Sep 11 16:36 xcursor-transparent ->
/usr/share/icons/xcursor-transparent
As you can see here we have several linking loops and since /home/user/.icons
-> /usr/share/user-icons we have a situation where attempting to traverse the
home directory could easily end up in an endless loop.

removing /usr/share/icons/xcursor-transparent/xcursor-transparent and
/usr/share/user-icons/user-icons should solve the loop issue.

I wonder whether I should add a libosso component in Bugzilla to unclutter the

This should be fairly low risk, two of these were about printer fonts, one
about TTF and I don't see how anything loaded from the net would be run
through freetype. It would first need remote exploit or user installing
"malicious" font to the device.

In my slightly newer internal release which doesn't have SSU:
Nokia-N800-35-3:/usr/share# ls -l /usr/share/user-icons
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Dec 22 2005 default
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 36 Aug 28 15:33 xcursor-transparent ->
/usr/share/icons/xcursor-transparent
Nokia-N800-35-3:/usr/share# ls -l /usr/share/icons/xcursor-transparent
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Aug 28 15:30 cursors
The more interesting information is what created or owns in your device:
/usr/share/icons/xcursor-transparent/xcursor-transparent
or:
/usr/share/user-icons/user-icons
?
Did those e.g. come from SSU or did some 3rd party package create them?

Downloadable fonts aren't supported in Gecko, but they are in WebKit:

Proposed patch
This patch adds two functions, hildon_thumbnail_factory_load_full and
hildon_thumbnail_factor_load_custom_full that add a GDestroyNotify parameter.
It is called to free the user_data when the corresponding thumb item is freed.

Chances is , this is because there is no FR po file for libhildonfm-2.0.5.
the weird "ckdg" are translated into correct sentences for english because
there is a po/en_GB.po file with entry such as:
msgid "ckdg_bd_select_object_ok_open"
msgstr "Open"

Enhancement request, even more because APNG is an unofficial extension to the
PNG standard.
With regard to battery life I dislike the idea of supporting this.
4.2008.30-2 ships libpng12-0 1.2.8rel-1osso5 so this requires manual
backporting and a LOT of testing first.

Did you switch languages, or install from a backup?
Which exact version is this? Hardware = Scratchbox, I assume?
So this not a python2.5-hildon issue but definitely a libhildon issue?

My tablet is always in french and has switched to french since the first
install.
The test case can be played on scratchbox diablo (let me know the exact set of
command you would like me to launch to give you the version you are interested
in).
Both test case force LANG to fr_FR, wich should be available on your scratchbox
as long as those locale have been enabled in the hosting os (ubuntu dapper does
not offer non utf8 locales by default, you will have to launch "sudo locale-gen
fr_FR" to enable non utf8 french locales). Those locales are available on the
tablet as long as you choose french at the first installation (and may be even
later on, i have not tested).
The issue is, when the application think that it has to translated hildon file
chooser label in french, it looks for a matching mo file, this file does not
exist as there is no po file for french (nor any other language) in the first
place inlibhildonfm-2.0.5 , it use then the default value as they appear in the
source, wich happen not to be proper english but sentence code.
Chances are this behaviour can be reproduce with any non english language, and
is just a lack of translation.

As a followup to the discussions at Maemo Summit I have these additional
remarks:
- garage has a project 'alarmd'
- the project hasn't released any file
- trying to check out the sources returnes an error (403, forbidden)
So it seems the fact that alarm framework sources are not available is a bug
and was not intended.

------- Comment #4 from Jianjun.Yu at plenware.com 2008-09-23 13:42 GMT+3 -------
I investigate the source code of vte . Found that there is a funtion which
leads the virtual keyboard cannot display previous input .I will give the
steps.
[sbox-DIABLO_ARMEL: ~/vte] > apt-get source libvte4
[sbox-DIABLO_ARMEL: ~/vte] > cd ./vte-0.12.2/debian/patches/
[sbox-DIABLO_ARMEL: ~/vte/vte-0.12.2/debian/patches] > vim
90-maemo-changes.patch
This is a patch file which will patch the source code automatic when you build
package.Then you will see this function in vte.c
static gboolean
vte_terminal_im_retrieve_surrounding(GtkIMContext *im_context, gpointer data)
{
gtk_im_context_set_surrounding(im_context, "", -1, 0);
return TRUE;
}
Because of this function. we will don't see previous input forever. So I tried
hard to find a way of getting the previous input.but i failed. why the entry
widget implement this function (switch to virtual keyboard can display previous
input). if you investigate the code of gtkentry.c . You will find the same
function like this.
static gboolean
gtk_entry_retrieve_surrounding_cb (GtkIMContext *context,
GtkEntry *entry)
{
gtk_im_context_set_surrounding (context,
entry->text,
entry->n_bytes,
g_utf8_offset_to_pointer (entry->text,
entry->current_pos) - entry->text);
return TRUE;
}
So The entry widget can display previous input. Of course this just is the most
import part. I know that the HIM provides the access to and inside information
of the *text entry* widget. I want to know that whether could I fix this bug .
Last this bug is more likely a enhancement.

You can always stop animations on screen block. Or even put a checkbox on the
wallpaper setting window (Show animated).
The merge shouldn't be too intrusive as this is another format ans (if you
want) another file extension (apng).
Ovbiously I'm not talking a full motion pictue as background, but a sutil glow
variation of something would be neat.

Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3736] New: hildon Volumebar doesn't allow unsetting
"CAN_FOCUS"
Message-ID:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3736
Summary: hildon Volumebar doesn't allow unsetting "CAN_FOCUS"
Product: System software
Version: 4.1.1
Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Low
Component: hildon-libs
AssignedTo: nobody at maemo.org
ReportedBy: thp at perli.net
QAContact: hildon-libs-bugs at maemo.org
SOFTWARE VERSION: Revision 16197 on https://stage.maemo.org/svn/maemo/
STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
Run the following script in python:
==============
import gtk
import hildon
widget = hildon.VVolumebar()
widget.unset_flags(gtk.CAN_FOCUS)
w = gtk.Window()
w.add(widget)
w.show_all()
w.connect('destroy', gtk.main_quit)
gtk.main()
==============
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
The hildon VVolumebar cannot be focused, and therefore, not be controlled with
the keyboard (no keyboard input for this widget!).
ACTUAL OUTCOME:
The hildon VVolumebar is still focusable and reacts to keyboard input (up, down
to control volume, and Enter to press the mute toggle button).
REPRODUCIBILITY:
always, just run the above script. When setting "widget=gtk.Button('testing')"
instead of the VVolumebar, you can see that for normal GTK widgets, the above
procedure really makes the button not being able to receive input focus.
EXTRA SOFTWARE INSTALLED:
Not relevant
OTHER COMMENTS:
Happens on the tablets as well as on hildon on the desktop. The problem is
probably in hildon-1/src/hildon-volumebar.c - you have two child widgets that
get their "can-focus" property set depending on the mute state (see the
function hildon_volumebar_set_mute() in hildon-volumebar.c).

Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3738] New: Increased supply current after
disconnecting a WiFi link
Message-ID:
https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3738
Summary: Increased supply current after disconnecting a WiFi link
Product: System software
Version: unspecified
Platform: N800
OS/Version: Maemo
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Low
Component: general
AssignedTo: nobody at maemo.org
ReportedBy: urb at nic-nac-project.de
QAContact: hafqa at maemo.org
(Control Panel > General > About product)
4.2008.30-2
STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
Reboot.
Start xterm (just to have it active like I had, won't be used).
Measure supply current drawn from battery. Call it "normal"
Make a wifi connection to the internet (fixed ip, behind a NAT - I've no idea
whether it's relevant).
Play a radio stream from the home screen applet.
Disconnect wifi using the status bar icon.
Respond "Cancel" to the error msg box "Connection to stream lost. Reconnect?"
EXPECTED OUTCOME:
Radio goes off, connection icon fades, supply current back to normal.
ACTUAL OUTCOME:
Radio goes off, connection icon fades, supply current reads 200 mA above
normal.
Repeat STEPS TO REPRODUCE starting from line 4 if outcome as expected.
REPRODUCIBILITY:
Sometimes. I'd say roughly in one of 5 to 10 attempts.

OTHER COMMENTS:
May be an embodiment of bug 2602.
If the device is left in that spurious state, even in locked mode, it becomes
significantly warm within 10 minutes or so and the battery goes flat within an
hour or two. Forcing "offline mode" on a faded conn icon cuts off the extra
current. I _believe_ that a cycle wherein the bug occurs is recorded below in a
portion of my dmesg output:

Subject: [hafqa] [Bug 3736] hildon Volumebar doesn't allow unsetting

------- Comment #2 from thp at perli.net 2008-09-27 15:00 GMT+3 -------
I did some more testing. It seems to work when setting the property "can-focus"
of the HildonVolumebar to FALSE. I have to do some more testing. It would be
helpful to have a Gtk developer have a look at this, because it's not clear
what the difference between
GTK_WIDGET_SET_FLAGS (GTK_WIDGET (volumebar), GTK_CAN_FOCUS);
and
g_object_set (G_OBJECT (priv->tbutton), "can-focus", FALSE, NULL);
is (apart from the different object, but I mean setting flags vs. setting the
property). I haven't found anything in the documentation, either :/ That's also
the reason why I don't feel like I could come up with a patch at the moment ;)

Hmm, today's update (4.2008.36-5) provides an initfs-flasher update, but no
initfs-diablo update.
Surprises me as this was fixed in Diablo build 4.2008.33.
Seems we have to wait...

Just out of curiosity, what is the reason for handling the RX-48 differently?

STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM:
edit /etc/mce/mce.ini, find [TKLock] and change BlankImmediately and/or
DimImmediately from 0 to 1

BlankImmediately=1 blanks the screen and turns it on right after, and the
screen never turns off after that.
DimImmediately=1 does exactly the same.
REPRODUCIBILITY:
Always.

So you softlinked /home/user/MyDocs/.documents against
/usr/share/pre-installed/MyDocs/.documents or what? I don't get it.
Explicit steps apreciated, with explicit ln -s commands.
Just to compare, default is:

I had created softlink *in* /home/user/MyDocs/.documents, so in my case it was
cd /home/user/MyDocs/.documents
ln -s /media/mmc1/mmapper/Maps .
I had also removed all the pre-installed pdf files from
/home/user/MyDocs/.documents (mainly User Guides), but I'm not sure if this
affected to problems. So maybe add
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/*.pdf
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/*/*.pdf
Next step: Use Application Manager to try SSU upgrade to 4.2008.36-5
Result: No automatic reboot, no error messages
Tabled seemed to be functional, but
"Control-panel->about product" not increased
Next step: tried
Manual reboot
apt-get upgrade
Result: Error from "pre-installed-documentation-rx44", something about
"/usr/share/pre-installed/MyDocs/.documents/*"
Next step: tried
touch /usr/share/pre-installed/MyDocs/.documents/foo
apt-get upgrade
Result: Error from "pre-installed-documentation-rx44", *but* now complains
about
"/home/user/MyDocs/.documents/Maps"
Next step:
rm /home/user/MyDocs/.documents/Maps
apt-get upgrade
Result: No errors, "Control panel-> about product" correct, everything looks
ok.
I hope this helps. Sorry I can not downgrade my OS and try the steps, but this
is my understanding how it happened.
