Hi all,

Re: https://wiki.maemo.org/Task:Remarkable_community_projects

The goals of the "Remarkable community projects" task are very
high-level - list projects that we consider remarkable, to:

    * Improve their quality and promote them as ready to primetime.
    * Highlight to externals some of the amazing stuff the Maemo
platform can offer.
    * Bring attention, testing, contributions, new users to them.
    * Indicate to Nokia what is really worth promoting in their Maemo
related activities.
    * Cheer up the ego of promoters and contributors. :)

We already have something which achieves most of these goals (at least:
highlighting applications, bringing new users, cheering up ego): The
Pearls: http://maemo.org/downloads/featured/OS2008/25

The Featured Applications has, until now, been something manually
updated every couple of weeks by me, but perhaps we could set all of the
applications we've identified as remarkable as featured apps, and rotate
from time to time which one is the pearl.

If I understand how it works, every application has a field "Featured
application" which is a date, and a paragraph limited to 200 words
describing the application. The featured application list is the list of
all applications which have a date set in this field, sorted in reverse
chronological order. So to set an application as the pearl, you just
need to update the date field.

I propose using this mechanism to have a list of these remarkable apps -
which can then be linked to in more situations.

Cheers,
Dave.
