[maemo-community] Minutes of website design meeting 20-11-2008

Hi all,

We finally got a website design meeting together last night after some
confusion on Monday, and in spite some mishaps over timezone issues
(somebody who shall remain nameless set the topic to say 20h UTC, when
the meeting was at 19h UTC) and holiday issues (one Brazilian province
had a public holiday yesterday). All in all, a good and useful meeting,
which allowed us to resolve a number of misunderstandings and set clear
next steps.

Attendees:

* Dave Neary
* Tim Samoff
* Niels Breet
* Eduardo 'etrunko' Lima
* Andre Cunha
* Glaubert (:45)
* Henri Bergius (1:00)
* Miguel Peres (1:15)
* Jaffa (1:15)

Andre underlined that the design process was very unfamiliar to him. He
is used to proposing one design, getting feedback on that, revising it,
and continuing until the client is happy. This situation of having many
designers, with many people making comments on them, is unusual for him.

He also mentioned that he has been waiting for Glaubert (not yet in the
meeting) to revise his design based on the comments on the list before
doing anything else. He explained that as he had been put on other
projects, he asked Glaubert to help him and take over the design.

I mentioned that we had set a small group of people to be the portal to
the community for him. I also said that we needed to know who was
working on the design, and what they needed from us.

Tim and Niels discussed the site quite a bit, and Niels once again
insisted that the site design deliverable should include a style guide
as well as the HTML + CSS front page & secondary pages.

After Glaubert arrived, the following working method was decided on.

Glaubert is working on a revised version of the design he proposed next
week. He will complete & propose that today (21-11-2008).

After that, Andre and Tim will work together, on the mailing list, to
come to a final design. Tim will post a proposal for details which he
thinks should be changed in the current site. He and Andre will then
work to refine either Andre's or Glaubert's design, to arrive at a final
design for the front page and for the site.

Of course comments and revisions are welcome, but Tim will be the
primary contact for Andre, and will make sense of the various opinions.

I also asked Glaubert to be more reactive on the mailing list - he has
not responded to any comments since his last proposed design last week,
resulting in people waiting for him without knowing what he was working on.

I also brought up the other design task that needs work - laying out the
Development, Support and Community pages.

I made a proposal for the development page last week
https://wiki.maemo.org/Task:Improving_maemo.org/Development#Proposed_wireframe
 which did not receive much (any?) response. The content needs to be
reviewed and commented, the layout also. Tim said it was good, and
sufficiently flexible that it could be styled whatever site design is
chosen. I will follow up with INdT to clarify what resources I need,
since this was right at the end of the meeting and people were leaving.

The next deliverable, then, is Glaubert's revision, and then Tim and
Andre will work together to refine the design and come to a final result.

With that, the meeting closed.

Cheers,
Dave.
