TBH, I prefer the direction of your first mockup. I very strongly believe in an "information hierarchy" when creating a website - and it's most important on the front page. Here there's no clear weighting between the news, downloads and community columns and so I'm forced to look at all of them to work out what I want. It shows a lot of content up front, but I think it exposes /too/ much. (Yes, I realise my mockup did the same with its too many portlets - but it did have the same as your previous mockup in terms of the large icons to navigate someone away from the page to where they want to be more specifically). This large amount of dynamic content shows an active community, but the immediate impression I get is of a chaotic and unfocused one :-) > I think it's pretty self-explanatory, but let me know if you have any > questions. (Oh, and I've also added an idea for a new-ish tagline.) I like the tagline for a homepage splash, but think it'd just add clutter to the header if it was on every page. > Again, this is just an idea and I hope others want to ellaborate or creat > their own! ;) It proves, once again, you're a much better designer & pretty picture maker than me :-) Cheers, Andrew -- Andrew Flegg -- mailto:andrew at bleb.org | http://www.bleb.org/ maemo.org Community Council member
