[maemo-community] A rant on 25th-hour hysterics...

To the disgruntled,

I don't mean this to offend, but rather to motivate a little
self-searching...

One of the most fascinating things that occurs within the maemo.org
community (and most likely, every other passionate, close-knit community) is
when people take little/no time to interact with ongoing planning activities
and then suddenly exert interest in methods and practices that have been
discussed for quite a while already.

Clearly, almost every item that gets argued on this list has already been
toiled over via the wiki or on IRC -- or elsewhere (blogs, itT, etc.). Why
is it that deadlines tend to surface feelings that didn't exist during the
implementation process? Anyway, I know some of this has already been stated
amongst the threads, but I just find it humorous how this sort of
interaction occurs (whether it be the logo contest, the council elections,
or whatever).

The great thing about an "open" community such as this is that people can
take part in the real-time development of any aspect of maemo.org...at any
time. Why wait until the last minute? (Or, in the case of the council voting
constructs, the 25th hour?) This is one of the reasons, I think, why so few
people offered their candidatures for the council and why not one person was
nominated (which I was hoping to see).

If you truly want to be happy with how this community functions, please jump
into the conversation earlier. Don't just offer suggestions because you
don't like the way something has already been decided.

Good luck to all of the declared community council candidates. You're all
amazing people and I would love it if any one of you were heading up the
charge.

Tim
