[maemo-community] Minutes of web design meeting, 21/4/09

We held our weekly web design meeting today from 13:00 UTC until 15:00
UTC. Here are the minutes of the meeting. Niels and Tim will be making
related announcements later today & tomorrow morning.

Non-enhancements
• bug #4268: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4268 - Footer
content needs to be changed/fixed...

div issue mentioned in the bug is fixed. Neithan wasn't aware of an
agreed upon shorter footer text. He'll put it in place ASAP.

• bug #4287: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4287 - Implement
banners for Forum Nokia and nokia.maemo.com...

Will not block going live. Poke Jussi to get banners. In the meantime,
use "Calling all innovators" and "Forum Nokia"

• bug #4291: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4291 - Implement
template for authors of news items...

News items could use the profile photos of the people who submit them,
like in the planet. Neithan will take this on.
• bug #4271: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4271 - Header text
should be presented in Title Case...

This will need to be changed at the moment we deploy newstyle
• bug #4318: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4318 - Add RSS feed
for new bugs to Support page

A feed stream is included in the bug comments, and has been included in
the Support page.

Enhancements

• Bug #4324: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4324 - Need
maemo.org logo with "BETA" signifier..

Dave uploaded an updated version of Tim's logo with the correct
background colour - closed.

• bug #4270: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4270 - Input fields
should regain 'blank' value (hint) when focu...

Expected behaviour is that an original suggestive text (Username,
Password, Search) be restored when focus moves off an input field which
is empty. Low priority.
• bug #4280: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4280 - Application
screenshots with Hot and Fresh overlays look out of proportion...

"Hot" and "Fresh" look like they're hiding bits of the screenshot, when
they're actually added to the top, resulting in the visual element
looking out of proportion. Suggestion is to revert to a "Hot" and
"Fresh" title text which is clearly separate from the screenshot. Low
priority maintained.

mouseover versions for various buttons/links...

Glaubert proposed to provide these at one point. Dave will point him
toward the bug in question.
• Bug #4300: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4300 - The download
overlay graphics need improvement...
 Another one for Glaubert to comment on.

• Bug #4303: https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4303 - Multi-line
list items (sidebar menus) create odd breaks i...

See http://newstyle.maemo.org/community/ - roll over the "Reporting
security issues" link. Low priority maintained.

There are a number of unconfirmed low priority enhancements also - we
ran quickly through these and agreed that they could all be addressed
post-switch: Old screenshots in 'share app' page | Missing link to
Fremantle SDK in downloads page | Old screenshots and instructions in
'application-catalog'... | Add recent maemo presentation slides | Remove
old wiki elements from the 'Community projects' pages


We are a GO on launching the new site tomorrow, Wednesday 22nd April.

Migration plan:

12:00 UTC - 12:30 UTC: Database migration to put newstyle on www.maemo.org
12:30: Move new Community page to /community, new Development page to
/development, and new Support page to /support
12:45 UTC - ...: Ensure that no links to newstyle.maemo.org remain,
ensure that all links work (esp. in new content), test register & login
functionality - all hands on deck!
