The funny thing is that this issue is covered in the link in Thomas
sent in section 2.4 [1]. You apparently already did not follow that
link so I will have to quote it here!

Yes, of course. The cursor is placed at the beginning so you can edit
the text from top to bottom and delete the parts you are not referring
to. And of course it is easier for you to place your response where it
belongs - the newsreader has no way of knowing this.

So apparently there is no way to fix this even knowing Modest is open
source. It might be useful to be able to select lines of a mail and
swipe them away what to you think?
