[maemo-community] Moblin + Maemo = MeeGo. Impact on Council?

Gents,

This was my first question yesterday when I went to #moblin: What is
the Moblin community?

On #meego (I'm with Ryan on this one, sounds like a retarded version
of Julius Cesar: Meego, Meesaw, Meelost), VRe made an interesting
point, "there are no Moblin devices being sold, no devices, no
community". As far as I can see, Moblin only runs on netbooks, and is
a post-buy install only. Hence, their IRC channel is mainly
developers, and a handful of people asking about supported hardware
and issues installing. Their -devel list is roughly 2 threads a day,
and a couple of replies in each.

There is no Moblin-specific software (as there is for Maemo) -- most
of it are ports.

What this means is that fairly representing the Moblin community in
any elected body would be pretty hard, or even an impossible task.

I'm going to ask a bunch of questions, because I'm tired of
suffocating in the lack of information:

- What does this mean for Maemo (in clear terms)?
    - Will the devs stop working on new release/bugfixes? If so, when?
    - Will Nokia stop funding the servers? If so, when?
    - Is there a chance that maemo.org remains home of the community,
regardless of the software status, either as the full community or
community for the handheld devices part of Meego?

- How will future release be handled? Yes, Meego is supposed to be
Open Source, but what about device drivers for specific hardware like
we have now with the N900?

- Did you know that "MeeGo" in french sounds the same as "megot",
"cigarette butt"?

Thanks,
