It seems to me the suggestion to couple the forum and this list would work. Automated coupling, nothing manual. Every new subject on the list is a new forum thread and every new posting on the forum a new message on the list. In a way the forum versus list issue is like vi versus emacs. Neither party will admit the merrits of the other solution and in the end both lose.
