The past year or so has undoubtedly been quite a rollercoaster for people involved with Maemo. Where does this leave us ? What all the announcements, strategic directions and such cannot change are the several thousand applications submitted to maemo.org, the 70 million downloads and the fact that the N900 was and remains one of the (if not THE) most hackable Linux device of the past year. Realistically, I would not at all be surprised to see the number of votes less than in previous terms - after all, recent and not so recent tectonic-scale events have left us without quite a few community members. Still - as long as there are people interested in using their Maemo devices with things from Extras and people hacking on them, we should deal with whatever the future brings. We can give up any day - it's the going on that takes effort. In that sense, if elected, my priorities for the next term would be: - Ensure compatibility with other Qt platforms by working on bringing up-to- date versions of Qt and Mobility (essentially the 'MeeGo API') - Cooperate with the MeeGo programme, esp considering the Developer Edition, OBS and Surrounds efforts so that we maximize benefit for both people working on those and Maemo folks (a bit sad to see timoph turn down nomination - he would be an ideal candidate for this, but hey - at least I will be able to pester him, David and Niels on the topic with some level of legitimacy) - Bring out the most with regard to Nokia's upcoming "2011 MeeGo-related device". While I understand many are skeptical about it's role and possibilities, I have already stated that I do believe many underestimate it. Whether it can/will eclipse the N900 as the choice for Linux hackers, I don't know, but whatever the future holds, it will undoubtedly bring some things that will be applicable to our little community and trusty N900s, too. - Make sure maemo.org stays up - closely cooperate with all maemo.org stakeholders to ensure maemo.org doesn't get it's plug pulled > As an employee at Forum Nokia, he can use part of his working hours to > implement various technical enablers that help the vitality of maemo > community (and benefit the critical Qt ecosystem as a whole). As per the nomination rules - I'm stating that I'm currently working at Forum Nokia in a developer support/consultancy role. Best regards, Attila Csipa
