Dear Maemo council!<br><br>My TMO username is jecargo22. I have been checking on Maemo.org since 2010 when I bought my first N900. I become an active member in 2011 an decide to contribute by helping with testing and providing feedback to users and developers in several posts.<br>I am a full time scientist, so I have a broad knowledge of many things while I am not expert in computing/software or hardware development. Nevertheless, I can be valuable in brainstorming for needs which are closer to regular smartphone and social network users by combining my background in sciences and by being an active smartphone/social network user. <br><br>My current ongoing project for Maemo community, which I actively update and moderate, is that of I am trying to help N9 owners to geo-position their handsets in the world, and that way to also help to find others N9 owners nearby. Unfortunately, his post was lost and he didnt pursue the idea any further, but he should get credit for being the first to come out with such idea. Regardless, without being aware of this previous attempt, it was my recent perseverance an continuous effort what brought this most recent project to its current state. <br><br>My idea is to mature and manage this project for long enough to obtain as much information as possible about N9 global localization to share it with the Maemo/Harmattan community. This will allow us to know what fraction of the existent N9/50s are on each city/country/continent and to compare it to the initial geographic distribution of the handsets. But this is not all, the final goal for this project, is to mature it and try an create a network, where we could interact with the other N9 users from our own handsets, locally and globally, by making use of real-time positioning tools, to help us to share relevant info and to exchange apps/files to help users with software/hardware problems, basic social networking/gatherings or even for gaming purposes. This will involve more qualified members/developers to become involved, but I believe that if I persist, and this project keeps growing in the number of contributors, I could achieve that goal.<br><br>I think this contribution might be well received by the council and it might be worth some form of reward. Ideally, i would be delightful to get awarded with a training course for programming, and start developing the app myself to complete my previous project, but as that is not part of the deal, it would make me very happy to apply for a White N9.
