The server is advertising the file as 'application/x-tar' which I think
is technically correct except that there's supposed to be
'Content-Encoding: gzip' header (or something like that) included as
well.

As I recall at least Epiphany, Galeon and Mozilla are trying to fix the
filename extension when it doesn't match the content type (php script
vs. text/html, for example) but for obvious reasons it won't quite work
if the server is confused :)
