Don't believe everything you hear, ok... =)

Although that is partly true, handwriting recognition engine is closed
and so only available in N770, not in maemo SDK. 

But the virtual keyboard is included in maemo, check the tutorial:

Virtual keyboard is enabled by default and pops up automatically
whenever some editable widget is pressed. To use PC keyboard in maemo,
just click with right mouse button some entry widget and select “Input
Methods -> X Input Method” from the menu which opens.
