Rui,

Check out Crazy Parking
(http://www.indt.org.br/maemo/index.html#crazyparking) for an example
of something that takes over the full screen. Most of the apps
designed for X seem to work within the main panel such as a few
emulators that I tried out
(http://www.postneo.com/2005/05/27/maemo-emulation). Also check out
the screenshots that Aleksandr has taken of apps like rdesktop and
xbill (http://koltsoff.fi/770/) which also appear in the main part but
don't take up the whole screen.

I'm assuming that with SDL you should be able to take over the screen
if you want...
