[maemo-developers] [maemo-developers] becoming root in scratchbox

I'm trying to install libexpat1_1.95.8-3_i386.deb and
libexpat1-dev_1.95.8-3_i386.deb inside scratchbox. (I downloaded these files
from http://repository.maemo.org/pool/maemo1.1rc5/free/e/expat/)

I tried dpkg -i libexpat1_1.95.8-3_i386.deb

but it says:
dpkg: requested operation requires superuser privilege

when I try to su within scratchbox, my normal root password does not work. I
tried "rootme" and got:

su: cannot set groups: Operation not permitted

what am I doing wrong here?
Is this even the right way to make libexpat available so that I can compile a
program that uses it?
