Very good initiative, aplauds.. :)

- state saving

The current state saving feature is way too low level.  Could the GTK 
+ key/value API's (ini file kind of storage) be used as such, for  
making key/value pairs that automatically are persistent to the  
application.  That would be very Application Friendly, imho.

- hw key events

Too much code for handling short, long, repeating, kind of hw key  
events.  This should, again imho, be done by the System, and  
appropriate events be sent to the applications. Now applications need  
to do such analysis themselves, and they "should" be consistent in  
how doing it.

These two would be a good starter..?
