Do you think somebody deliberately put there instructions that do not work for him? Do you think the HOWTO author should care for the very specific system you chosed to install on your computer if he uses another? > I ended up downloading the kernel-source package by hand and loading > the n770defconf by "make menuconfig" which worked fine :) Yes but maybe you should take the warning in the HOWTO about gcc version seriously :-) As for the compilation by hand (and also outside of scratchbox) yes it would be nice to have it in the HOWTO.
