I too have seen mysterious power downs. So far I haven't been able to detect a
pattern. Sometimes I've plugged it in to recharge and when I came back and
opened the cover it had powered down. I wonder if a surge or static shock
might cause it in this case, but other times I've just found it in the off
state when I know I left it on, and the batter still had a charge.
