[maemo-developers] [maemo-developers] dpkg -i error?

When I used the dpkg -i, I encountered some error

sudo dpkg -I sqlite_3.2.7_arm.deb
dpkg: unable to access dpkg status area: No such file or directory

Do I miss something?  I do want to install that outside /var/lib/install.  Please help.
