I gave up and randomly tried stuff until it worked.

Specifically:

1) I have a full domained service name in the .desktop file.
2) The .service file uses this full domain.
3) The osso initialization call uses the full domain.

These in combination seem to work.

In particular, telomer.desktop, telomer.service, setup.py (which puts 
them in the right place), and polymergtk/hildonapp.py, which has the 
osso.Context().
