Hi Adam, I made an investigation to discover how you can do this with C and I found a reference to GtkIMContext object associated with a GtkWidget object. When a GtkEntry (that derives from GtkWidget) get focus it sends a gtk_im_focus_in() message to GtkIMContext object and this method make the softkeypad popup on the screen. There are bindings to GtkEntry and GtkIMContext in PyGTK+[1][2] but I didn't have time to discover how you can use these objects to keep the softkeypad from going away.
