I look on my desktop "home" content and see what I have to see: not just one conf file for shell tuning. When I log in, process reads conf file for only that purpose, ".profile" in this case. Since I use tcsh, it has it's own ".cshrc" to tune every further shell invocation. Other apps and scripts has "#!/path/to/shell", which is "sh" and accordingly ".shrc" to configure it's behavior. It is possible to set paths and shells to every application, but would be easier to read environment variables. Zoran
