Hello

I agree that the thumb keyboard is not working very well , I often try
to generate a normal key press to have the normal menu. I like the idea
if two columns but here would me my "view" on it.

On mobile phone there are quite complex menu structure. in the begin
it's hard to find apps but the longer you use the phone the better you
remember how to get to the apps you want(even if it's 4 levels deep
(menu 1-1-4). this is because the location of the options is on the
same place every time.
Therefore I would suggest to copy that functionality onto the menu,
and perhaps not even make the menu look like a menu. but more like a
dialpad, 6 or 8 items sound good and would leave some space for nice
large icon's
the last menu option should be "next"

initial menu:
 Media player | file manager | [sub]web
 Rss reader | [sub]contact | [sub]more

after pressing more (perhaps a nice but fast animation like the media streamer)
 [sub]blaa | [sub]blaaII | [sub]blaaII
 [sub]extra's | .....

The point is that if items are on the same place every time (the
"more" button always on the right bottom) my fingers can rember that.
