This seems fairly basic, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. I just want a "beep", a noise. I don't need/want a sound file (but if that's the only answer...). The obvious answer would seem to be gtk.gdk.beep(), but that doesn't seem to work. Yes, I do have the volume turned up, and have enabled the various system sounds in the "Sounds" control panel. (By way of example, the sound made when I adjust the "Master volume" control in the "Sounds" panel is *exactly* the noise I'm looking for.) Any pointers? Thanks, Steve
