[maemo-developers] Diablo Extras .install files

Hi all,

We automatically generate .install files for Extras up until Chinook[1]
and for Extras-Devel[2]. We currently don't generate those .install file
for Diablo Extras because of the way the promotion interface works.

Normally .install files are generated when a package gets processed in the
incoming queue of Extras. The promotion interface skips this step and
copies the files directly into the repository.

It hasn't been determined yet where to implement the generation of
.install in the new situation. There are some options:

Option 1:
Generation of .install files can be done in the promotion interface when
promoting a package from Extras-devel to Extras.

Option 2:
Another option would be to modify the promotion interface to use the
incoming queue for Diablo Extras.

My preferred option would be option 2 as that would also help bring down
the load on the machine which is caused by reindexing the repository.
Which is needed because of the direct file copies. We would need to check
what the technical difficulties are in this case.
