Well, I'm biased: I think it's a good idea, but definitely NEEDS buy
in from the community at this point, even if it's vocal "woohoo! great
idea". Of course, the other approach is to set a minimum quorate vote
threshold to gauge community involvement, but I'm suggesting this
mostly facetiously.

Since I've just got back from holiday/vacation[1], I'm doing a lot of
catching up on the discussion about it so far (mostly on the talk
page) and so might end up having the same discussions with people on
IRC or via email they've already had.

On a practical note, if the community does buy in to the idea (at the
moment, I'd GUESS it does, but without a ringing endorsement from some
of the community heavy-hitters it may die a death), will the voting
facilities be available through maemo.org? I'd imagine we could use
whatever process is going to used by the logo contest (possibly with
tweaks).

I wouldn't support elections more frequently than 6 months, but could
be persuaded that *longer* terms were necessary. I'd strongly suggest
6 months would be the sweet spot at the moment, and that the process
can be changed over time (I dumped some notes on the process for
changing the rules into the wiki page over a SFR wifi connection in
France, last week).

As for the voting process itself: I'd imagined a web page on a trusted
site (maemo.org ideally, ITT perhaps if not) with a list of
candidate's names and nicks, in alphabetical order, with a radio
button beside their name and a "Vote" button at the moment. Shouldn't
be too onerous :-)

Dave, if you've got any knowledge on how the logo voting is going to
be handled - or know if ferenc or X-Fade do - does this sound like a
feasible option?

As Dave says, though, if anyone's got any thoughts on this - please
don't hesitate to raise them, even if it's as simple as "god no!" or
"about time!". If this is largely pushed through by GeneralAntilles,
lardman and myself, it can hardly claim to be a COMMUNITY council:
don't wait until the voting happens: speak now or the vote may never
be held.

Thanks in advance,

Jaffa
