I'll look what's the issue there.
My first guess is build failed because you didn't put everything which
is needed to build vim into build-depends. The fact that it builds in
your local environment simply means that you have all real build
dependencies installed there.

Now a bit of explanations:
The main difference between local builds and autobuilder ones that in
local builds you don't need to take care about most of build-deps at
all, which is bad, IMHO. 
Autobuilder performs 'clean' builds - installs only build essentials +
package build-deps. So, if you have build failure in 80% cases it means
that you didn't put all build-dependencies to your debian/control. Of
course it's assumed that you use standard scratchbox components and
repositories for distro you're building for.
