yes Xnest should be fine, but the syntax is a little bit different.
Something like 'Xnest :2 -ac -geometry 800x480' should do the trick.

Since Xnest can't emulate a lower colour depth and you need 16 bit for Maemo you
will have to run your X server in a 16 bit mode.
