Sorry about the non-answer, but here's a related question.

How can I prevent this from happening from software?

I want to make sure that this does not happen when I run a particular
application of mine that needs very little input (which therefore gives
plenty of time for the key/touchpad to lock) but for which it is very
important to get immediate input.

Shame there isn't one on the N800 because this sounds  like a good idea.
