Happy to hear that you have a temporary solution. As Ferenc pointed out garage was never designed to be a file sharing location, it's a version control service for developers. Having really large rootfs images (and debian repositories for that matter) does have an impact on the servers and therefore the quality of service everyone experiences. We can talk and see if there is a need for a place for really large files in maemo.org. Some interest does exist, but I have only heard of about three to five projects where large files would need to be shared. So it's borderline whether it makes sense to set up the infrastructure for so few cases.
