See the last two answers in http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/faq.html It is exactly like Faheem solution, but be warned that it may (in some rare circumstances) break some Scratchbox wrappers that depend on python2.3. So it is not a definitive solution for every package, but should work in your case. If it does not work, feel free to post the errors and preferably the debian/rules.
