Thanks. The program now does run from the menu, though it still does not 
appear in the running task list.

BTW, I copied the desktop from maemo-periodic, which is also a python 
program. maemo-periodic has X-Osso-Service in .desktop file, does not 
have an Exec line in .service file, and still works from the menu.
