Ie. js as binding to the platform and js inside a html page where among others, security considerations limits its scope. For what I know, script binding currently are more or less just wrapping a specific toolkit so that doesn't bring much for portability. Would indeed be nice to have a toolkit independent spec, like eg. AWT for Java. Since Palm already has something, might be worth taking a look in how far it can be implemented on Maemo.
