I use it mainly because my laptops (both mac and linux) have shared public folders, and they are shared using SMB, so in the filemanager my computers popup and I can access or transfer things just by moving them to/from the public folder. I can do so via bluetooth or other mechanism but sometimes wireless is easier since I can browse the public folder. This is NOT file syncing on a massive scale, it is copying one or two media files. SSH is NOT installed by default, but I've installed it so I also do "scp (files) root at ip_address:/media/mmc1 or whatever". This has proved to be very convenient at times and it would be something I would miss in Fremantle, though a "1-click" install would be sufficient since I know SMB involves a lot of files, configuration, and space and not everyone uses it.
