Good question.  We only needed apt for the Application manager, and
including aptitude as well frankly never occured to me.

But, there actually _is_ no Maemo main seed.  There are the SDK
repositories, there are the SSU repositories, and then there is the
'certified' repository.  I'd say that the Maemo Extras repository is the
best place for aptitude now, with the best hope for active maintenance.
