Greetings everyone,

Here is the first report for my work on making Maemo software build with
Open Embedded.

1. Porting work done so far -
I have had success with the base libraries - libosso, libhildon, libhildonfm
for the UI parts and libconic etc. I started by studying the recipes for
maemo-4 in OE written by Marcin Juszkiewicz (Hrw) and making the required
modifications to them. Then I wrote my own basing off fremantle and making
use of the maemo-gtk option (which was earlir set to no).
I have made heavy use of the patches by the Mer community to get the builds
going and thank them for the same.

The work can be seen here at http://github.com/rkirti/maemo-oe/tree/master.

I have only recently made a request for registering this project with
garage. This repository will be shifted to Maemo garage when I get my project
request approved.

This OE build is being done on a Mamona base - I have modified the Mamona
distro. configuration in my OE tree to use the gtk+ and glib versions needed
by maemo Fremantle as preferred providers. I chose Mamona because that is
the only distro which supports N800 in OE so it will be easier for me later,
when I work on the base layers.

I am currently working on hildon-desktop and the osso applications like
osso-xterm. One issue that has been time-consuming and the cause of delay so
far is I have been testing the packages on my own system without a chroot
before building it in OE. This caused my system libraries (gtk and glib) to
interfere with the maemo-gtk libraries I installed and break builds. I
intend to switch to a chroot /some build mechanism to avoid this from now.

2. Testing work -
I am working on getting custom Mamona images built with OE to run on QEMU -
again basing off Hrw's work in N800 emulation till I arrange for my own
device. Meawhile, I also have a build of the Maemo components (till
hildon-desktop) on an Angstrom base going on, which I intend to test on the
Beagleboard which Valerio Valerio has arranged for us GSoC-ers.

Thanks and Regards,
---
