In debian, that is considered an NMU (Non Maintainer Upload) and is considered bad form. Maemo doesn't have that policy; if its broke and you fix it, good for you! Of course, it might be considered rude to work on someone else's software without sending them patches first or what have you. So I recommend just sending a patch if you can. Jeremiah
