Aki, et al., I am trying to understand and share as much as I can about how the Nokia N900 works so that we can all work together as developers. Personally, I don't have any immediate need to determine the carrier for my own coding. However, I the better I understand what is available, the better ideas I can come up with for applications. As an example, there have been talk about being able to determine if one is roaming or using ones regular carrier. That might be useful in some applications. Could I build applications that meet country specific legal requirements based on MCC? There are probably a whole bunch of other ideas that people would have if they knew what values are really available and how easiest to access them. Dawid's response illustrates for examples of the sort of stuff that I imagine people would be interested in.
