[maemo-developers] hildon-application-manager doesn't work reliable with large dependency stack

Hi,

currently I am facing some unreliable issues with the
hildon-application-manager. I suppose it orrurs with larger package
dependency stacks. For kde-pim on mobile we are creating packages and
uploading them into an apt repository. Because these packages depend on kde
libraries the dependency stack is really huge and an update of the mobile
applications includes at least an update of kdepimlibs and kdepim packages
(>> 20 packages). The hildon-application-manager isn't always able to update
these packages (without changing any package description and dependencies).
It it possible to remove the application(s) and reinstall them but imho it
should be also possible to get a new version via an update.
hildon-application-manager complains about conflicts with already installed
packages which should be updated too. Also this behaviour isn't reliable and
reproducable. On some devices it may work. It is ALWAYS possible to install
all new packages without any complains with apt-get upgrade. Does anybody
have the same issues with hildon-application-manager? Any hints where to
look at this issue? Should I fill in a bug report? Are there any solutions
to bypass this problem for "normal" users without any knowledge about
apt-get? It's a bad user experimence for us if a user couldn't update the
applications via the builtin application installer.

Regards
Bjoern
