Different GSoC organisations approach differently but most of them have only been hinting towards actual welcomed projects, not mandating them. If you think about future and want to explore Google integration/syncing, I'd personally would be interesting on seeing something that allows to sync both ways statuses of read/unread messages and subscriptions in Google Reader with Maemo Feeds Ontology (mfo) in Tracker master branch.
