<p>What will this mean for the general IT public, though? If an app is made with Ruby, will it run on all maemo devices or will people have to install a bunch of extra software? Or, will it just be contained in a couple of libs that can be downloaded with an app?</p>

It is true that the ruby bindings are not as complete as the python bindings<br />
right now. This will change pretty quickly. I've almost finished libosso support<br />
and the Hildon bindings have been complete for quite some time. I hope to make<br />
a major version release in the next week or two.<br />
