[maemo-users] /etc/timezone

I'm running OS 2008 RX-44_2008SE_2.2007.50-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin on an
N810. I used the standard maemo menus to set the timezone to "New York" (the
closest thing there is to US/Eastern). And "date" correctly reports "EDT".
But I noticed that /etc/timezone is set to Europe/Helsinki. How is date
getting the time zone? Will it break things if I overwrite /etc/timezone to
US/Eastern?
