Not necessarily.  That's simply telling the audio to take a different 
route than through the headphone jack.  The headphone jack is probably 
"closed circuit" that will connect to the headphone, if present, or pass 
it on to the speakers.  It is possible to build extra contacts etc., 
into the jack to signal something is plugged in, but that's not common 
in those mini jacks.
